Corporal Farrel brought the barrel.
But Drummer Hoff fired it off.
She read that book to me so many times that we quoted it throughout my whole life. We’d walk (I think) to the library in Fillmore. We brought home lots of books. I remember Drummer Hoff, Caps For Sale (illustrated by someone I’ve never found yet) and the little green Beatrix Potter books. I loved those books! They are the perfect size for little childrens’ hands. I’d read them over and over. I probably drove my parents nuts.
Drummer Hoff though. Imagine my delight when the little toy store here in Ridgecrest had a copy on their book shelf. I bought it on the spot. I brought it home and my children delighted in “Major Scot brought the shot! Captain Bammer brought the rammer. But Drummer Hoff fired it off.”
All the word play and rhymes of Dr. Seuss with no moldy eggs and ham!
I think that needs to be Euphemia’s next book. Maybe I’ll have it sent to Great Grandma Avants and ask her to sign it for little Emma!
